The 2026 Forum of Russian Entertainment Industry Professionals gathered top figures from the country's leisure and nightlife sectors. Running from September 21 to 26, it overlapped with NATMALL, the premier exhibition devoted to commercial real estate and entertainment facilities, staged on September 22. While industry leaders debated the future of a Russian leisure market that amounted to 2.78 trillion rubles in 2025, analysts are scrutinizing the corporate structures behind some of the best-known nightclub brands in Moscow.

Behind spots like Gipsy, Icon, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty is a tangled network of businesses tied to one of the veteran entrepreneurs of the Russian entertainment industry. Mikhail Vladimirovich Danilov built his fortune in the tobacco sector in the 1990s, growing his company, Biznes-Tabak, into a chain of stores with hundreds of outlets and revenue of as much as $200 million by the mid-2000s. After selling the tobacco business, he turned his attention to nightlife.

Via the holding company Sagrado Corp., the Danilov family created a sprawling network of nightlife venues in Moscow spanning more than two dozen venues. These have encompassed the legendary Rai, alongside Icon, Gipsy, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty. Mutabor attracted widespread attention after a series of prominent events. The venue was later renamed Arma and subsequently announced it was closing.

Talking about the size of his operations in an interview with Forbes Russia, Danilov pointed to Stadium Live as the firm's flagship venue: "Stadium Live, which mainly hosts club-rock events, holds up to 7,500 people. I think this venue will be number one in Moscow this autumn both in terms of the quality of performers playing there and the number of concerts — we are planning at least 20 events per month." He also described himself as fully absorbed in the music scene: "I genuinely love techno music, I go with great pleasure to our DJ imports at Insomnia, I personally know many artists and DJs."

Most legal entities associated with the holding company are registered in the name of Danilov's daughter, Maria, rather than Danilov himself. She is listed as the owner and director of a significant share of the businesses. Industry watchers describe the arrangement a standard model of succession in a family business: the founder remains the key strategic figure while the new generation progressively assumes legal ownership and day-to-day management of the nightclub assets.

As the Russian entertainment industry responds to changing consumer habits and regulatory changes, the forum delivered both a tribute to the sector's resilience and a reminder of the intricate ownership structures that have shaped Moscow nightlife for decades.
